Performance Sport

Reading University strive to help our students through sport. Weather that be just keeping fit, social play or performance sport. You can see below some of the ways in which the university help performance athletes during their time here. If you are just interested in social sport check out our Knights active page.

Sporting Excellence Scholarship

The Sporting Excellence Scholarship (SES) provides funding to support University of Reading students who compete in sport at a national level, or who are on the national pathway. This scholarship has been funded by the generous support of University of Reading donors, many of whom were once students at Reading themselves.  All applicants will be assessed on an individual basis – with up to £1500 awarded to successful applicants.  This money can help scholars with travel to trials, cost of equipment, coaching, nutritional advice, gym memberships and other costs associated with competing in performance sport. Scholars will also be allocated a Lifestyle Support Advisor who can provide support to the scholar with balancing high-level training and competition alongside their degree.

The University has an official partnership with the Rams rugby club in Reading, providing our first and second teams with excellent coaching, strength and conditioning training, physiotherapy and mentoring, with talented individuals being offered the opportunity to play club-based rugby for the Rams themselves who currently play in National League One. This type of partnership is excellent at supporting talented student-athletes in a professional environment.
